Efforts continue to restore service

June 29, 2018 – 3:45 p.m.

Grand Rapids, MN – More than 2,000 Lake Country Power members have power restored since this morning’s fast moving thunderstorm. Crews are working to restore service for more than 5,300 members in remote and hard hit areas. 

The majority of the outages are located in the northern areas of the cooperative’s service territory, including Lake Vermilion, Ely, Gilbert, Babbitt, Orr, with additional scattered outages across the co-op’s system. 

Fast moving morning storm causes outages

June 29, 2018 – 9:00 a.m.

Grand Rapids, MN – Friday morning’s fast moving thunderstorm is affecting electric service for more than 7,500 Lake Country Power members. Line crews are currently working to restore service at nearly 90 various outage points. Those affected are primarily north of Virginia near Side Lake, Lake Vermillion and Ely, and also throughout the Grand Rapids service area.

The storm brought 60-to-70 mile-per-hour winds, heavy rain and lightning through the western and northern edge of the co-op’s service area this morning.   

Remaining outages nearing restoration

May 31, 2018 - 4:00 p.m.

Grand Rapids, MN – Lake Country Power crews have worked many long, hard hours since Tuesday evening’s severe thunderstorm hit, knocking out electric service for more than 7,000 members.

Crews are currently working to restore power that serves two different islands on Lake Vermilion where they can only access the points by boat across water. Fewer than 80 members remain without power on the islands, as of 4:00 p.m.

Recovery following storm continues

May 30, 2018 - 9:00 a.m.

Grand Rapids, MN – Lake Country Power crews worked through Tuesday night and are still at it today, restoring power for members affected by a severe evening thunderstorm. The rural electric co-op reports 2,700 members without power this morning after more than 7,000 outages were reported last night.

The storm brought 60 mile-per-hour winds, hail and lightning, and grew in intensity and impact as it moved into the northern regions of the co-op’s service area. 

Cooperative adds new lineworkers

May 29, 2018

Grand Rapids, MN – Lake Country Power welcomes three new lineworkers to the co-op’s operations department – Rick Kosloski of Brainerd, Blake Svoboda of Hill City, and Ryan Vogel of Sturgeon Lake.

Kosloski will report to the co-op’s McGregor Outpost, Svoboda will work from the Grand Rapids Service Center, and Vogel will report from the Kettle River Service Center. 

28 area students receive scholarships

Grand Rapids, MN – Lake Country Power is pleased to announce 28 local high school seniors from 28 different schools have been awarded the Lake Country Power 2018 Les Beach Memorial Scholarship. The Les Beach Memorial Scholarship honors a former co-op employee and recognizes student commitment and contribution to local communities.

The $4,000 scholarships will help the following graduating seniors pursue their college plans and career dreams:

Lake Country Power shared this message with more than 300 members and guests at its annual meeting Thursday, April 19, in Cromwell, Minn.
