Grand Rapids, MN – A Lake Country Power lineman is in stable condition today following electrical contact on March 7 at 5:30 p.m., while working in the Grand Rapids area to restore power for co-op members.

Upon contact, his partner immediately called 911, and the lineman was brought by ambulance to Grand Itasca Hospital. From there he was airlifted to Essentia Health-Duluth (Miller-Dwan Building) for burn treatment.

Lake Country Power is assessing the accident.

At the height of Tuesday’s storm, more than 4,800 Lake Country Power members were without electric service during late winter winds gusting up to 60 mph. The outages were widespread but isolated across most of the co-op’s service area. Line crews have been working in cold and windy conditions since Tuesday morning.

Currently, line crews are working to restore 11 scattered power outages as this evening, primarily in the Mountain Iron and Kettle River service areas. Nearly 140 Lake Country Power members are without power. Trees and limbs are falling onto power lines from strong winds.
